News about Frome Weavers Spinners and Dyers
In December 2018 we became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). This will enable us to apply for grants to further our charitable purposes and will help us secure new premises.
We continue to welcome new members, support beginners and provide the chance for those with weaving experience to develop their craft on a range of equipment that they may not have room for at home.
We are currently applying to become a registered charity, which we hope will help us in finding larger premises so that we can expand. We are rapidly outgrowing the 1200 square foot space we rent at the Steiner Academy, and are on the lookout for premises of 1500 – 2000 square feet in the Frome area. If you know of such a space, we would be very happy to hear from you.
We have recently changed our name from Frome Textile Workshop to Frome Weavers Spinners and Dyers to better reflect what we do.
If you are interested in weaving, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Thank you to all those who visited our very successful sale in December. We will be holding our next sale of work in July.
Weaving from Mexico
Chris sharing her experience of staying with a Zapotec weaving family in Mexico recently. The family introduced her to natural dyeing with cochineal, indigo and pericon and then she used these yarns to weave the small sample rug seen in the picture.
